BULLOCK ROOM
A snug and romantic bar located within the Planter’s House space.
The Bullock room is available for Private Events Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Sunday evenings for parties of up to 25 people. The Bullock Room is the perfect spot to hold your next celebratory occasion, cocktail party, casual dinner, or office gathering.
To utilize the Bullock Room, we require a $100 Room Fee (charged when booking is made to secure the space) and a minimum expenditure of $800 (plus tax and gratuity) at the event (charged the night of the scheduled event). For private event groups of up to 12 people, we can offer seated dinner service. For groups of 13-25 people, we can offer cocktails/beverages and appetizers/snacks.
THE HISTORY
The Bullock Room is named after Tom Bullock, who was a bartender at the Saint Louis Country Club.
Over the course of his career there, he served four American presidents and became known for his Mint Juleps. In fact, he is often heralded as the bartender that scandalized a president. While under oath, Teddy Roosevelt once admitted to drinking “just part of one julep”. It was promptly declared that he had to be lying, because no one could only drink a “part” of Tom Bullock’s julep. Mr. Bullock’s juleps were enticing enough that you would surely drink the entire cocktail. In addition to his fine career at the St. Louis Country Club, (where he served his mixed libations before, during, and after Prohibition) he became the first African American to write a cocktail book. In 1917, he published The Ideal Bartender. Mr. Bullock passed away in 1964, but his legacy lives on in the Bullock Room at Planter’s House.
